Concorde complex-plus
Though Concorde Professional is out is the good news, the bad news it is a highly complex flight sim.
Being a state-of-the-art is one thing, but needing a tertiary degree to fly it is quite another.
Well, almost. The real pilots of this aircraft needed tertiary degrees before getting into the cockpit.
The flight sim's complexity is not being under-stated.

The cockpit is more authentic than in FS2002.

Concorde Professional comes in a Limited Edition package with a superb ITVV DVD of an entire Concorde Flight for just £34.99/€52.95/$52.99.
This package includes a two-hour DVD of London-New York Concorde flight.
The DVD starts with a bit of puff and then ground inspection of the aircraft, the detail being quite unexpected.
It is certainly enlightening and worth the long sit, coach-potato-style.

The centre console includes throttles and trim plus INS.

The era of supersonic transportation began with Concorde.
Developed as a Franco-British joint venture to be the transport of tomorrow, its shape is still distinctive and Concorde set pulses racing whenever it flew.
After 28 years of commercial operation Concorde has had to take early retirement but, thanks to the development team at PSS, this aviation icon will continue to dart across the skies of Flight Simulator 2004 at 23 miles-a-minute.
The French and English suspended the Concorde from flight on 15 August 2002 following a fatal smashin Paris enrout to New York killin g all 109 on board and four on the ground.
French investigators found a strip of metal on the runway that did not belong to the departing Concorde.
The metal damaged a tyre and the debris punctured the fuel tanl, starting a fire.

The side console is complex enough by itself
|
Flights resumed on 7 November 2001, but on 10 April 2003, British Airways and Air France put their Concordes to rest, blaming rising costys.
The last scheduled passenger flight occurred on 24 October 2003, from New York to London.
There have been none since and it seems likely there never will be.
All this makes one wonder why bother with a flight sim for a plane that will never fluy again
The easy answer is many of the sims we fly on our PCs have long-since been mothballed, but we still like to mess about with them.
The more complex the sim, the better many of us like it.
In all, there were 20 Concordes built.
In the Just Flight sim, xtensive animation includes nose cone and visor, landing gear, split rudder, passenger and cargo doors, elevons, engine intake ramps and thrust reverser nozzles.
Concorde Professional comes with a comprehensive 2D panel as well as a fully-detailed virtual cockpit that includes high resolution gauges with reflective glass, animated control yokes, rudder pedals, throttle levers and engineer's panel.
As you'd expect, there's an accurate flight model with re-heat effect and an authentic version of Concorde's unique INS (Inertial Navigation System)
|
Now, this is one you've not seen before: hydraulics panel.
|
To help you master all this, Concorde Professional includes a 160-page printed manual and a tutorial on the CD.
ComputerNews will publish a full review of the Corncorde soon, so watch out for it!
Many of our subscribers have asked why we do not market flight sims, such as those of JustFlight.
The reason is simple: We are not geared up for it, and in any case, there are so many online sites selling flight sims that you already have a wide choice.

Moving fuel to control CG can get quite busy.

For the Limited Edition included is a two-hour ITVV DVD of a Concorde Flight.
Captain David Rowland and Senior Flight Engineer Roger Bricknell take you on a trip from London to New York with full commentary
If you want to go supersonic, check out www.justflight.com for screenshots and full details.
